- Prolonged menstrual bleeding
- Intermenstrual bleeding
- Painful menstrual periods
- Pressure on the bladder causing frequent urination
- Pelvic discomfort and bloating
- Constipation
- Symptoms of anemia such as fatigue, tiredness, breathlessness on exertion, light-headedness, weakness

Diagnosis
Diagnosis of fibroids is made on scans of the uterus. These include:
- Ultrasound scan of uterus
- MRI scan is required in some patients especially for those requiring treatment.
Treatment Options for Fibroids
There are multiple management options for fibroids.
- Medical management
- Surgery
- High intensity focused ultrasound
- Uterine artery embolization
Uterine Artery Embolization
This is a nonsurgical vascular procedure for treatment of fibroids. This procedure is also effective in many patients with adenomyosis of uterus.
The procedure is done under intravenous sedation and takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete the procedure.
The procedure involves 2mm needle access into artery or the groin or the wrist. Small tubes called catheters are navigated into arteries super-selectively that supply the fibroids under image guidance . Special custom made particles specifically designed for the purpose are then injected into the arteries supplying the fibroids to block blood flow inside them. After treatment, these fibroids start to shrink and reduce in size over a period of months.
It can be done as day surgery procedure or one night stay in the hospital. If you suspect you have fibroids and would prefer a minimally invasive treatment such as uterine artery embolization, reach out to our clinic. We also treat other conditions such as pelvic congestion syndrome apart from uterine fibroids.
